Regarding Updating the file content

Please tell me the steps how i will be able to edit the file content ,if i clicked on edit link means it allows me to edit the file attaributes not the file content so as i am new to this please suggest me

You cannot edit file content. Checkout file, edit it on your computer, then check-in same file over last version.
Only newest version will be shown, but you can check old versions in history.
