folders in doc repository?

I will have several thousand documents in my repository once they all get scanned and uploaded. Obviously this would be a bit stressful for users to scan titles so i'm wondering if it's possible to create folders within the repository. I just need them one level deep, each one named for a year (2011, 2010, 2009, etc). Is this possible? If so, how does one go about implementing this?
