Absolutly, that would be just amazing.

Since there is no DMS-Plugin for WordPress (as there are some pluggable DMS-Modules for Drupal and Joomla) at the moment but many requests for such solution all the time - with the new GUI and a smart WordPress-ODM-Integration you could make it easily into the WP-Core and get Millions of new passionate active users in no time. That's the way to go, Steve.
